WGC-Bridgestone Invitational Betting Tips – Thursday 6th August 2015

The World Golf Championship events have the strongest fields in golf, Majors aside. Just look at the outright betting market for this week’s Bridgestone Invitational, the third WGC event of the season. There is quality everywhere you look from Jordan Spieth at the very top to Ryder Cup winner Stephen Gallagher towards the bottom. With no cut, golf fans will be treated to the top golfers in the world doing what they do best.

Once again the Bridgestone Invitational takes place at Firestone Country Club and its 7,400 yard par 70 course. You won’t find a longer par 70 on the professional circuit and the 667 yard 16th hole is the longest par five in any event save for the Major championships. This is a course where hitting it a long way helps a great deal. It’s also a course that rewards the steady players who hit the majority of greens in regulation. Whoever rises to the top of this all-star field will have to show an incredibly well rounded game.

Last season Rory McIlroy was in the middle of a tremendous run of form and won here by two shots, just edging out Sergio Garcia. With the world number one absent because of an injury, Garcia must fancy his chances of going one better. An aggressive player, Sergio is capable of keeping up with the biggest hitters and he possesses what many believe to be the best ball striking in the world. This season has been another good one for the Spaniard and even though he hasn’t yet won he’s reserved his best golf for the biggest stages. He lost in a playoff at the Players Championship and placed 18th or higher in each of the Majors. At 28/1 with Bet365 Sergio is an obvious bet and very good value.

Another price that jumps out from the screen is Coral’s 45/1 about Matt Kuchar. The 37-year-old is one of the most consistent performers on the PGA Tour and he has winning form in very strong fields. In the last five years Kuchar has placed 27th at worst at Firestone showing that he can more than make up for a relative lack of power. The one negative for Kuchar is his tied for 46th finish at the Masters as form at Augusta usually indicates a good week at the Bridgestone but at that price you can forgive him and get on board with an each way bet.

Of the main contenders for the title, the man to include in your staking is Jason Day. Spieth is too short at 6/1, there are question marks over the ability of both Justin Rose and Rickie Fowler to close out a victory and Dustin Johnson has a mixed record at Firestone. Day (14/1 with BetVictor) came fourth here in 2011 and comes into the tournament in some of the best form of his life. This is his first start since he won the Canadian Open and were it not for a severe case of vertigo he could have broken his Major duck at the US Open. The Australian has the power and the precision to record back to back wins and is our main tip.
